School Updates
In the last month, students have had a number of opportunities to learn in unique ways. One such opportunity was our visit from the “Critter Keeper”, who taught students about snakes, spiders and other creepy crawlers through hands-on activities. Our Kindergarten students participated in the marriage of the Letters Q and U as the culmination of their King and Queen unit.
Celebrating student Success
In February we celebrated our students' success via Student of the Month awards. Each teacher nominated a Student of the Month and Citizen of the Month. These students received a treat and were celebrated by our administration. From our student of the month students, a student of the year was selected for Elementary “Collins Morgan” and Middle School “Landon Morgan”. Both of the Morgan’s are outstanding students who exemplify core virtues every day. These students will proudly represent GCA at the Charter Institute at Erskine event later this year.
Core Virtues Highlights
In the preceding month, we recognized students embodying our Core Virtues by choosing one exceptional student from each classroom who exemplifies the virtue most frequently.
This past month, our focus shifted to Honesty and Justice. Honesty and Justice are important aspects of our mission of cultivating the next generation of American citizens. Honesty or truthfulness is a facet of moral character that connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, straightforwardness (including straightforwardness of conduct: earnestness), along with the absence of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Honesty also involves being trustworthy, loyal, fair, and sincere. We hope to build these virtues into all of our Patriot family.
We are currently tallying our student of the month ballots, and they will be announced next week.
Teacher Spotlight (Teacher of the Year)
This month, we celebrate the remarkable efforts of Greenwood Charter Academy’s Teacher of the Year Missy Moseley. Mrs. Moseley has been in education for over 30 years and has brought her expertise to GCA. She loves her first grade students and develops strong relationships that help them excel in all areas. Her smiling face is always ready to greet students as they walk down the hallway each morning. Mrs. Moseley exemplifies quality teaching and her love of education is obvious in everything that she does. We are proud to call Mrs. Moseley GCA’s Teacher of the Year!
Teacher Spotlight (First Year Teacher of the Year)
Mrs. Athena Aultman has been selected as GCA First Year Teacher of the Year. When you visit Mrs. Aultman's classroom you feel like you are in the room with an educator that has been teaching for twenty years. Her joy for teaching and her students is infectious. Mrs. Aultman has the ability to get great things done with all of her students. We are proud to have such a wonderful First Year Teacher of the Year at GCA!
